3 days in Marrakech: a day-by-day itinerary

Four days of sensory overload, three hours from most of Europe.

Trip length
3 full days
Best months
March, April, May, October, November
Rough daily budget
Mid-range: roughly €60–110 per person per day including a riad

This is a shape, not a schedule. Each day has two anchors and a lot of slack, because 3-day itineraries that book four things a day fall apart the first time lunch runs long. Move things around freely — the neighbourhoods are grouped so that walking between stops actually works.

Day 1 — Medina orientation

Before you go

  • Go in March to May, and October to November if you have the choice
  • Skip July and August regularly exceed 40°C, which makes the medina genuinely unpleasant
  • The medina is walking-only in practice; cars can't reach most riads, so arrange a pickup that meets you at the nearest gate.
  • Book anything with timed entry as soon as your dates are fixed

Planning this with other people

Riads are the group win here: a whole six-room riad with a cook and a courtyard often costs less than three hotel rooms. Book the whole property and eat at least two dinners in.

Common questions

How many days do you need in Marrakech?
Three days is enough for the medina, the gardens and a hammam. Add two or three for the Atlas Mountains or Essaouira.
Is Marrakech safe for tourists?
Generally yes, with persistent hustling in the square and souks rather than danger. Agree prices upfront, be firm and polite, and use official guides rather than volunteers.
What should you wear in Marrakech?
Loose clothing covering shoulders and knees is comfortable and respectful, for men and women. It's also the practical choice in the heat.
Should you stay in a riad or a hotel?
A riad in the medina, for a first visit — it's the experience, and the courtyard silence makes the medina's intensity manageable.
